What is an Assured Service Provider?

The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) was formed by the government in 2016 as the UK’s technical authority for cyber security. As threats from the internet grow ever more prevalent and complex, individuals and organisations need to understand cyber security and take steps to protect themselves. The NCSC strives to make the UK the safest place to live and work online. It does this by responding to cyber incidents, securing public and private sector networks, and making practical guidance accessible to everyone.

The NCSC also works with partners to offer schemes that cover a range of products and services. Through these schemes, it can recommend independently assured organisations to consumers, so they can have confidence in buying cyber security advice and services.

Assured Service Providers are organisations that have met the National Cyber Security Centres standards and employ or contract professionals qualified to deliver a particular service. Customers are assured that the advice and services they receive is of a high standard and can be trusted.

All Assured Service Providers must demonstrate that they:

  • have good cyber security and can keep client data secure

  • are committed to achieving an excellent and consistent client experience by using a quality management system

  • Employ or contract individuals qualified to deliver the services of a scheme to customers

Cyber Advisor is an NCSC scheme to provide small and medium sized organisations with reliable and cost-effective cyber security advice and practical support. This makes it simple for organisations  that are starting out on their cyber security journey to benefit from expert skills and advice offered by qualified individuals. All Cyber Advisors must work for an Assured Service Provider.
