IASME Community is the community interest and social enterprise arm of IASME

Our vision at IASME is ‘for a fair and accessible world with opportunity for all’. We are passionate about addressing the important issues facing the cyber security industry and sharing our knowledge and skills to help people in our communities.

What do we do?

Since 2018, IASME Community (formerly known as UKCSF), has dedicated its efforts to delivering specialised cyber security training to unemployed adults facing obstacles to employment. The training course is recognised with a qualification by CIISec, the cyber security professional body in the UK.

Our mission is to empower talented individuals facing social barriers, disabilities, or anxiety by providing support and training for a successful career in cyber security. Our goal is to fill the significant skills gap in the sector.

In 2021, a small team from IASME Community were involved in a Community Cyber Service project that aimed to combat the high levels of cyber-crime that affects people in vulnerable communities. IASME worked with Sanctuary Care Home in a study, where elderly residents were supported to protect their devices from threats, in line with government guidelines.

Today, we run cyber security training programmes twice a year, deliver outreach work to community groups and promote careers in cyber security. We are also working on some exciting new training opportunities for entry level jobs in cyber security.

This includes discussing ‘transferable skills’ and ways to transition into the cyber security sector from an unrelated field. You may have seen us at Malvern Football Club, the Food Bank, Malvern Festival of Innovation, the Museum of Computing at Bletchley Park and biannual careers fairs.

Cyber security training programme for people with barriers to employment

IASME Community started training unemployed adults with barriers to employment for careers in cyber security in 2018.

We recruit many of our trainees from job fairs where we can meet and speak to people in person.

We welcome trainees with any barriers to employment. Barriers could include a disability, neurodivergence, anxiety, and caring responsibilities.

IASME Community have developed their cyber security training programme over the last few years to focus on the needs of the trainees. By creating a stress-free environment away from judgement and bias, individuals can relax, learn, and discover their potential in the field of cyber security and IT support.

The current programme is a on-site, classroom-based course. It runs for four hours twice a week in Worcester for ten weeks. We have two courses a year – in the spring and autumn.

The course includes face to face training, access to Immersive Labs online training platform and guest speakers from a wide variety of cyber security organisations. The course covers numerous topics and gives our trainees a snapshot of the many fields within the cyber security sector.

The skills developed on the course have been mapped against the CIISec skills Framework. These skills provide the trainees with enough knowledge to apply for Accredited Affiliate Membership of CIISec which is an internationally recognised professional qualification.

The training provides social as well as technical training and helps the trainees build greater confidence in a safe environment. There is a quiet space available during the on-location training and a welfare officer providing pastoral support.
