Where to start?

If you are an Applicant seeking Defence Cyber Certification, refer to the DCC Process Guide to help you navigate the steps to certification.

Find a Certification Body

Organisations interested in certifying to the Defence Cyber Certification scheme can begin the process by contacting one of our assured DCC Certification Bodies.

IASME Certification Bodies or CBs, are specially trained cyber security companies located all across the UK and Crown Dependencies. All of the CBs are licensed and assured by IASME to offer assessment and certification to cyber security standards such as Cyber Essentials and Defence Cyber Certification.

An IASME Assessor is a trained and qualified cyber security professional that assesses cyber security standards such as Defence Cyber Certification. All Assessors need to work for a Certification Body to be able to carry out assessments.

Determine Scope

The scope of your DCC assessment must include all processes, systems and business parts that are required for the business to function and deliver in a secure and resilient manner.

It is strongly recommended that Applicants discuss the scope of their DCC assessment with their Certification Body at an early stage (prior to submission) to avoid under scoping.

Answer the questions and prepare the evidence

You will need to answer each assessment question, describe how your organisation meets the control, and provide supporting evidence to prove compliance in practice.

Ensure that your evidence clearly supports your answers and descriptions, providing the Assessor with a clear understanding of how each control is being met. It is essential that this evidence is readily available and can be submitted to the Assessor upon request.

Download the Applicant Guide and Assessment Submission Record for the level you are aiming to achieve.

No Assessment Submission Record is necessary for Level 0.

The Defence Standard

The cyber security Defence Standard (Def Stan 05-138) is the cornerstone of the DCC scheme. Its latest iteration, issue 4, marks a pivotal shift as it expands the Defence Standard’s scope beyond solely protecting MOD-identifiable information to enhancing the overall resilience of an organisation against threats.

The uplifted standard specifies the cyber security controls that suppliers must achieve at each level of the Cyber Risk Profile. It aligns to national and international standards, including the CAF framework and the NIST and ISO standards.

The Defence Cyber Certification Badge

IASME partners with BlockMark Technologies to deliver and verify digital certifications. Once certified to the desired level, Applicants will receive a digital certificate and verifiable digital badge representing the DCC level which can be shown on a website or email footer.
