Cyber Essentials for Membership Organisations, Trade Bodies and Trusted Advisors

Mar 24, 2020 | Cyber Essentials

Cyber Essentials is a Government Approved business certification scheme specifically aimed at helping businesses become more secure against internet born threats.

Key reasons why membership organisations, trade bodies and trusted advisers (insurers, banking, accountancy, business advisors, Local Enterprise Partnerships, Growth Hubs etc) should signpost their members/ clients towards Cyber Essentials are:

Cyber Security is classified by Government as a Tier 1 threat. This places cyber in the same category as terrorism. With the increased number number and sophistication of cyber-attacks, Cyber Essentials is a scheme proven to reduce the risk of an online attack by 80%.

Due to the effectiveness of Cyber Essentials, Government tenders are increasingly asking for Cyber Essentials before a contract is awarded. It is already mandated by MoD for contracts where there is MoD identifiable information. For these MoD contracts Cyber Essentials is also mandated throughout the respective supply chain. Cyber Essentials therefore enables organisations to gain and retain business.

The Forthcoming General Data Protection Regulations introduce some stringent requirements on securing and protecting data. The Regulations allow for an eye watering fine for those organisations that fail to comply (up to 4% of global turnover).  Cyber Essentials can already mitigate fines imposed by the Information Commissioner’s Office and this is likely to be the case in evidencing steps to comply with GDPR.
